FAQ

Common questions about Indexly.

What data does Indexly search?

Indexly searches the resource types you have enabled in Configuration. By default this includes orders, order metafields, order notes, order note attributes, line item properties, customers, customer metafields, products, variants, product and variant metafields, and metaobjects.

It does not search payment card data, Shopify user passwords, or anything outside the Shopify Admin GraphQL API.

How quickly is the index updated after a change in Shopify?

Most changes appear in search results within a few seconds to a couple of minutes. Indexly uses Shopify webhooks to receive change notifications and updates only the affected record.

  • Orders and order metafields: typically 5–30 seconds
  • Customers, products, variants: typically 1–5 minutes
  • Slow-changing data (metaobjects, etc.): up to 30 minutes, or on the next webhook

During very high-traffic periods (e.g. a flash sale), indexing jobs may be queued and take a little longer.

Why am I not seeing a record in search results?

A few things to check:

  1. Is the resource type enabled? Go to Configuration and confirm the relevant resource type is toggled on.
  2. Has the initial sync completed? Check the Sync status panel. If the sync is still running, some records may not be indexed yet.
  3. Is the value you are searching for actually stored in that record? Open the record in Shopify Admin and confirm the value exists in a field that Indexly indexes.
  4. Try rebuilding the index. If you recently enabled a new resource type, click Rebuild index in Configuration to pull in historical data for that type.

Can I search metafield values?

Yes. Indexly indexes all metafield values across the resource types you have enabled. It searches both the key name and the value. The match context in each result shows you which namespace and key contained the match.

Can I search metaobject fields?

Yes, if metaobjects are enabled in your Configuration. Indexly indexes all fields on all metaobject definitions in your store.

Can I search line item properties?

Yes. Line item properties (custom attributes attached to individual items in an order) are indexed when Line item properties is enabled. The match context will show the property key and which line item it belongs to.

Is the search case-sensitive?

No. Searches are case-insensitive. Searching po-12345 and PO-12345 returns the same results.

Can multiple merchants see each other's data?

No. Every indexed record is scoped to your store. Indexly enforces strict isolation so that searches only return records from your Shopify store, not from any other store using Indexly.

What happens to my data if I uninstall Indexly?

When you uninstall, Indexly receives an uninstall webhook from Shopify and removes your store's data from the index. You can also request manual deletion by contacting us.

Can I rebuild the index manually?

Yes. Open Configuration and click Rebuild index. This triggers a fresh bulk sync of all enabled resource types. Use this after changing which resource types are indexed, or if you suspect the index is out of sync with your Shopify data.
